Business executives are well aware that technology disruptions will occur in the next years. However, keeping up with emerging technologies, much alone comprehending their complexity and anticipating developments, is a daunting endeavor.
The CompTIA Emerging Technology Community publishes an annual list of the top 10 emerging technologies to assist companies in gaining a foothold. This list is unique in that it concentrates on “which new technologies have the most potential for immediate business effect.”
CompTIA’s selections are shown below, along with a brief description of each technology and some potential commercial applications.
Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The Internet of Things (IoT) and 5G

As a result, you may create a large, complicated application without paying any expenses until it is executed.”
Biometrics is the ability for a system to recognise people based on biological characteristics like their face, voice, or fingerprint. Many individuals currently have one or more of these on their laptops and cellphones, but as technology advances and becomes more widespread, the password paradigm may be phased out.
Because most individuals choose ineffective passwords, use the same one for all accounts, and never update it, hackers usually only need one hit to gain access to a person’s personal and professional information. Even individuals who use strong passwords may find it difficult to manage the system.
As a result, biometrics promises to provide much-needed data security. With raw computational power, a fingerprint is far more difficult to crack than a password, and the complexity increases by orders of magnitude when many markers are employed in unison.
Virtual reality’s day may have finally arrived, with hardware costs falling, computing power rising, and high-profile firms such as Google and Facebook entering the game. And, if augmented reality apps become more widely accepted on smartphones, such technology may become simpler to market in the future.
Microsoft Mesh, which was just unveiled, and its competitors are hoping to cash in on our new remote-work age. The idea is to leverage these “mixed-reality” technology to build virtual shared spaces for corporate teams to have meetings and collaborate on projects.

Bitcoin, the much-hyped cryptocurrency, did not make the list, which may come as a surprise. However, the blockchain, a technology’s online ledger, has overtaken the digital currency as the emerging corporate star.
A blockchain, unlike traditional, centralised records, is decentralised. The permanent record is distributed across the system and is not stored in a single location. This architecture makes it more difficult to misplace or tamper with documents.
Elad Gil, a software entrepreneur, told Big Think in an interview: “Systems based on [Blockchain] are basically censorship-proof or seizure-resistant.
